Citizen Police Academy
The Emmaus Citizen Police Academy was created by Sergeant Schilling and held it's first annual class in the Winter of 2024. This nine-week course was designed to educate the Borough of Emmaus citizens in the philosophy, policies, operations, practices, and functions of their Emmaus Police Department while enhancing and developing police/community relations. This course is not intended to train or certify citizens to perform law enforcement services.
Participants enrolled will receive instruction by Emmaus Police personnel including presentations and demonstrations on various topics such as:
- Department Overview
- Lehigh County Coroner/Death Investigations
- Criminal Investigations
- PA Crimes Code, Vehicle Code and Emmaus Borough Ordinance Overview
- K9 Function/Demonstration
- Traffic Stops
- Patrol Function
- School Resource Officer/Juvenile Detective
- Lehigh County Drug Task Force
- Accidents and Accident Reconstruction
- Lehigh County Emergency Response Team (LC ERT)
- Use of Force
- Firearm Safety
- Role Playing/Scenario Training
- Applicants must be at least 21 years of age
- Applicants can not have any felony or misdemeanor convictions
- Applicants can not have any open/pending court cases involving felony or misdemeanor crimes
- Applicants must pass a background check conducted by the Emmaus Police Department
- Applicants must be residents of the Borough of Emmaus
- Applicants must be able to attend at least 7 of the 9 scheduled classes
Applications will be available for pick-up starting on Wednesday October 1st, 2025.Applications can be picked up in person at the Emmaus Police Department Monday through Friday between 8am and 4pm. Download, complete and return your application.

Applications are to be returned to the Emmaus Police Department by Friday December 5th, 2025, at 4pm. You will need to provide your identification when returning your application. Notification of acceptance will be mailed to participants in the first week of January 2026.
